Comfortable daysailer and competitive club racer, the LS-30 is a sleek, modern design with a n open transom and bulb keel. The boat is well-balanced and stable, so its passengers can sit comfortably in the cockpit and not on the rail. The LS-30 boasts an efficient deck layout that allows for single-handed sailing or a family outing. The boat also can perform very well as a racer with a minimal number of crew (generally four people in a moderate breeze) who control the boat from the cockpit.
The LS-30 is in her glory in 10 to 15 knots of wind. She handles like a dream, turns on a dime and stays flat without a lot of crew hiking out. Kite sets and take-downs are very easy to execute without a lot of fuss, and the boat manages to maintain her speed through gybes. In 20-plus knots, the boat is surprisingly dry and comfortable upwind. She isn't easily overpowered and rarely needs a reef. The mainsail inverts in a big breeze, depowering the boat and keeping her on her feet. Once the LS-30 turns a corner and heads downwind with a kite up in a strong breeze, she takes off on a plane.

The length overall including the carbon bowsprit is 30', and the length on deck is 28.5'. Down below there is full sitting headroom with two saloon berths and a separate compartment for an optional head. The two-ton, epoxy composite LS-30 carries 1,825 pounds of ballast in a 6'-deep lead bulb keel complemented by a forged-steel fin. The narrow 7' 6'' beam and 25' waterline work with the ballast to maintain great stability, which allows the boat’s crew tosit comfortably in the cockpit rather than on the rail. The efficient arrangement of sheets, halyards and the comprehensive rig controls on the deck leads all lines to two winches mounted on the coach roof and a two-speed mainsheet system and traveler in the cockpit.
The LS-30 carries 506' of sail split between a fully battened, square-top main and a blade jib from its self-tending, skiff-style, carbon rig with 30-degree swept spreaders. The main and jib, designed and built by Maine Sailing Partners, are constructed from Aramid. A single reef-point is added to the main, and the jib is equipped with below-deck roller furling. An asymmetric spinnaker flies from the stationary bowsprit.
The epoxy composite hull carries 1,825 pounds of ballast in its stationary 6' carbon fin and lead bulb keel—just less than half of the sailing displacement of 4,073 pounds. A 10-HP inboard diesel engine provides auxiliary power. The boat is easily trailerable and lightweight enough to be pulled by an SUV.
The LS-30 is ideal sailboat for someone who needs a fun daysailer for the family with the performan ce capability to be a successful racer.
